The outdoor setting sun cast long shadows across the manicured lawn, and David breathed in the sweet scent of roses. He’d just finished an excellent meal and was feeling profoundly satisfied, his chest expanding with each breath. He leaned back in his chair, feeling the cool grass beneath his feet.

He allowed himself to fully absorb the scene. He felt unburdened. The laughter, the music, the love radiating from the newly married couple – it all seemed to settle around him, creating an invisible shield of happiness.

Then, a familiar figure appeared, and his breath hitched. It was Jessica, her eyes meeting his across the lawn. The relaxed posture was gone. His hand instinctively reached for the stem of his wine glass, and his jaw tensed.
